Home Visits

If at all possible, patients should try to attend the surgery. This allows us to perform our clinical examinations in an optimum environment with all the necessary equipment to hand and also ensures that we can continue to provide an efficient service to our other patients. However, home visits may be made to patients who are housebound or too unwell to attend the surgery.

Please make requests for home visits by 10:00am whenever possible. It is helpful to the doctor if the patient can give the receptionist some indication why the home visit is required so that the doctor can prioritise the requests in order to see the most urgent cases first. A doctor may call you back to clarify the need or urgency of a home visit

Results & Enquiries

If your GP has sent you for a test at such as bloods with the practice nurse or an x-ray at the hospital we usually get the results back within 7-14 days but this can be longer depending on the test.

To get the results of tests requested by the GP please telephone reception, after 2pm.

You will usually only be contacted by the practice with a result if further action is required, typically by telephone. Due to the volume of tests requested we do not routinely call if the results are normal. However please do call for all your test results so you know we have received a result and keeps you up to date on your own health.

Repeat Prescriptions

The repeat prescription telephone number is 01738 620012. You may call this number, hand in a medication slip to the surgery, send in a stamped, addressed envelope for return, or order repeat prescriptions using our secure online service. Please allow 3 working days as we require this time to process prescriptions. Drugs supplied are monitored by computer and from time to time it will be necessary to call you into the surgery to review your treatment. Repeat prescription requests are dealt with Monday to Friday.

We have recently been reviewing our repeat prescription process and want to help eliminate safety issues by encouraging our patients to move towards using our online order facility available on our website. Information is available from the “Online service” menu item under Patient Services where you can register to use the secure service. In the future we will be reviewing the continuation of the telephone service and hope that the online service, that has been available for many years, will help to reduce the risk of errors. If you would like some additional information then please don’t hesitate to get in touch and we will do our best to help you.

Travel Health Advice – Changes to the Service

With immediate effect, travel health advice will no longer be given by the practice. Patients will be directed to alternative clinics (see details below) where appropriate advice will be provided, and if required, vaccinations will be given. The practice will provide a list of previous vaccinations on request.

If the travel health advice provided by the alternative clinic indicates that the Tetanus, Diptheria, Polio (Dip,Tet,Polio combined vaccs), Hepatitis A or Typhoid vaccinations are required, the practice can currently provide these free of charge by making an appointment with a nurse if a patient requests them.

Please note that our nurses cannot provide travel health advice for just the free travel vaccinations. Travel health advice will have to be provided by an alternative clinic before any vaccinations are administered.

Please note the practice cannot recommend an alternative clinic and the details below are merely suggestions. Your local pharmacy may be able to provide travel health advice, but if not, direct you to another service provider.
